Council for Excellence in Education

Health information is complex, nuanced, and ever-changing. The Council for Excellence in Education (CEE) was created to enhance the health information profession, plan for its future through education, and provide HI professionals with a way to get involved in the process.

The CEE advises AHIMA on education and workforce matters and their collective expertise strengthens the organization’s vision, mission, and strategies set by the AHIMA Board of Directors. The CEE also guides various AHIMA workgroups and the Professional Certificate Approval Program.

The purpose of the CEE is to:

Improve and adapt the education strategy for health information and related professions, focused on future opportunities and challenges.
Foster support and adoption of new initiatives and improvements to curriculum, credentials, academic programs, and resources.
Focus on the changing needs of the students and working professionals and consider innovative ways of providing world class education in HIM.

Get involved with a CEE workgroup to be an agent of change in your profession and to raise your profile in the HIM field.

Choose from one of the following volunteer opportunities:

Academic Framework Workgroup: Establish for the profession and the workforce the entry-level academic preparation requirement.
Assembly on Education Program Workgroup: Plans and designs educational programming for the Assembly on Education Symposium.
Graduate Resource Alliance: Focuses on the academic needs of graduate level programming.
Professional Certificate Approval Program (PCAP) Review Team: Evaluate coding certificate program application materials.
Professional Development Workgroup: Informs AHIMA’s workforce development strategy.
Student Advisory Workgroup: Serves as a focus group with AHIMA’s leaders, members, and staff, and help to staff various roles at the AHIMA Annual Conference.
