AHIMA Announces Addition of Ciox HealthSource Gym to AHIMA VLab™ Platform
Chicago — Oct. 8, 2020 — The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and Ciox Health today announced that health information students now have access to the industry's only experiential coding training and assessment solution—Ciox HealthSource Gym. The tool is available in AHIMA’s VLab™ platform, a digital practice environment for students to explore real-world healthcare technology and build career-focused experience through integrated learning activities.
Ciox HealthSource Gym is a web-based application powered by clinical content. Its experiential format enables organizations to efficiently and reliably assess and train coders and clinical documentation integrity (CDI) professionals of all skill levels across the coding continuum. The application is designed to improve coding skills by providing data-rich training and practice scenarios with immediate feedback. It also enhances the coding acumen of CDI professionals and allows users to learn by doing—a proven methodology for increasing retention.
“I’m so pleased this critical addition to the AHIMA VLab™ gives educators an important tool to help prepare students to excel in the field of health information,” said AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE. “Our continued collaboration with Ciox is another example of AHIMA helping students prepare for a career that is complex, nuanced, and ever-changing.”
Victoria Wolf, RHIT, CPHQ, allied health instructor at Waukesha County Technical College in Wisconsin, said she has found Ciox HealthSource Gym to be valuable to both instructors and students. “The HealthSource Gym provides my students with a meaningful coding experience through real-world inpatient cases and they appreciate the immediate feedback provided in the Gym,” Wolf said. “The Gym also supports my work with analytics to monitor student performance and to identify opportunities to improve our courses.”
Ciox CEO Pete McCabe said the company is excited to collaborate with the leading voice of health information, AHIMA. “Accurate medical coding is important for so many reasons, from ensuring accurate payment to creating a valid patient care history,” McCabe said. “COVID-19 has highlighted the importance of health information and Ciox HealthSource Gym helps bridge the gap between academic coding and real-life coding. We’re proud to help prepare health information students for vital, consequential careers.”
