CHICAGO – August 25, 2020 – The American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) announced today that Health Information Professionals Week (HIP Week) will take place October 11-17, 2020. The celebration of health information professionals will be held in conjunction with the AHIMA20 Virtual Conference. HIP Week was originally scheduled for March but was postponed due to COVID-19 pandemic.

“HIP Week presents an excellent opportunity to celebrate the dedicated and critical work of health information professionals,” said AHIMA CEO Wylecia Wiggs Harris, PhD, CAE. “The pandemic has shone a light on their contributions, and I can’t wait to acknowledge their efforts during HIP Week at AHIMA20.”

AHIMA has created the website HIPWeek.org to tell the stories of health information professionals and their impact on the quality of patient care around the globe. The website recognizes these professionals and gives them a platform to share why they’re so passionate about health information; health information professionals can also download materials from a HIP Week toolkit to help them celebrate. And there’s a place for health information professionals to sign a pledge to support consumer engagement and patients’ rights, as AHIMA believes health service consumers are empowered when they are engaged with the knowledge and understanding of their health status and treatment.

Harris said she was pleased with the timing of HIP Week. “AHIMA20 is the place for health information professionals to access the education and resources they need, while engaging with their peers,” she said. “Celebrating HIP Week at AHIMA20 is a natural fit.”
